1.1 PRIMARY DRIVES - INTRODUCTION
TIRED OF BROKEN BELTS?
SuperMax OFFERS A WIDE VARIETY OF PRIMARY DRIVES FOR "HARLEY DAVIDSON" MOTORCYCLES. These drives are a far cry from what else is available on the market today. All SuperMax drives are constructed from the highest grade materials available. The engine pulleys utilize hardened centers that are a 60 'Rockwell' and last almost forever. Tapered shaft engines, Splined shaft engines ... we offer it all. Need an off-set for later model 4 or 5 speed transmissions? We can Off-Set your engine pulley to match up with all kinds of weird installations ... Early Pan or Knuckle in a "Softail Frame? Extended swing arms? We can handle almost anything. Call us. We have the answers!
SuperMax pulley teeth are constructed of 'Poly' and have excellent wear charteristics. The heat from the engine is insulated from the belt and this extends belt life considerably. All of our belts are 'Gates Poly-Chain ©' and carry a 2 year warranty, if correctly installed. These are not mere 5 horsepower machinery belts such as offered by the competition. These belts were designed especially for motorcycle use. Some manufacturers send 2 belts with the kit, What does that mean?...They are cheaper but nothing like these drives. These are "REAL" motorcycle drives, Not Machinery belts stuck on a drive and hope you don't ride hard. We offer drives (Both primary and secondary conversions) for the early 'Flatheads, Knuckle's, Panheads and Shovelheads'. We offer these drives for early kick start's that will fit inside of the stock tin or cast aluminum primary covers. We offer the correct drives for the intended machine. You don't have to make a swing arm belt drive fit a rigid frame. We offer the correct center distance drive for your particular machine. No notching of the transmission case or "Caving in" of the seat post and so forth. The kick start drives for the tin primary and kick start aluminum primarys in the "Silent Drive" weigh a mere 5 pounds. They emit no clanging sound when sitting at a traffic signal or when shifting gears. More power can be realized as the ultra light weight uses much less horsepower to turn than the heavier drives that are out there. The 'Exchange Drive' weighs more, but they are available for electric starts up to and including the "Belt Drive Classic" which came with a chain drive on the primary and a belt drive on the rear, for all of the early 3 stud clutch hubs (up to and including 1984's). These are all 1-1/4" poly drives. The 13.8mm drives that we offer for our 'cast aluminum primarys use the same pitch belt as the factory installed drives. The drives that we offer, however are 1-1/4" as there are so many 'Stroker" motors amongst our customers we offer the slightly wider belt. If you should ever need a spare belt a factory 1-1/8" 13.8mm belt will suffice to replace your belt. It wasn't just a coincidence that we used the 13.8mm poly-chain © belts. We did all of the proto-type work in 1977 to 1979 for the factory drives in conjunction with The Gates Rubber Company. Therefore, we can offer you a complete selection of replacement parts for all of these factory installed drives as well as all of the aftermarket drives that they sold. These parts are still light years ahead of all other belt drives.
SO YOU WANT "HEAVY-DUTY" HERE THEY ARE....
With so many people wanting a "Super Heavy Duty" drive, we also offer our
"Predator" drive. This drive has a 2 1/4" 14mm Poly Chain Belt that is virtually
indestructible. We offer a 5 year warranty on these belts and have sold them
for 20 years. There is only one that has been replaced, and that was
the first one that we made. That came from Leo Hess's drag bike, with many punishing
1/4 mile runs on it. This guy doesn't leave anyplace without leaving a wide trail of
black rubber behind him. That old belt still lasted him for 8 years. That is the only
known failure of a 'Predator" belt as of January, 2008.
WHAT'S NEXT AT SuperMax? WELL GET READY FOLKS, THEY'RE ALMOST FINISHED ...
We have had a lot of requests for the later style clutch primary
drives and we are nearly finished with the required tooling. Soon, we will
offer these great drives for all of the 1985 to present, 12 13/16" center
distance drives which would include all "Softails" and other long center
distance machines such as the "Road King" and so forth (Sorry not for FXT's or
FLT's). Until now, we could not offer these belt drives for these motorcycles
because the belts will not run in oil. Finally ... there are many 'DRY' style clutches that
do just fine. One of these clutches will be required to run a SuperMax primary
drive.
