3.2 SPORTSTER – Rear Wheel Pulleys (1955 to PRESENT)

K models to 5 speeds, SuperMax offers a wide range of different gear ratios to suit your particular riding style.

SuperMax belts and pulleys are compatible with all factory 1 1/8" kits. 4 and 5 speed pulleys and belts are available in 2 widths (1 1/2" and 1 1/8"). Modifications required on some drives depending on your particular year Sportster. Splines that are available are displayed below:

                                                      1984-1992 4 speed                      To present

All 3 different spline transmission pulleys are available in 27, 28 or 29 tooth, weighing from 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 pounds depending on pulley size. Rear wheel pulleys are available in most patterns (see rear wheel pulleys). Each of the 61T have matching flanges for the "CHROME AND SLOTS" and the "FLOATER". All other patterns carry a plain chromed flange (the flange area is too small to decorate with some patterns). Flanges may be mixed and matched. We offer many beautiful colors that can be matched to your sample. However this service is limited to the dyes available, we are constantly engineering an even wider choice of colors.

K models and early Sportsters (to 1978), disc brakes are necessary. 1979-83 swing arm should be utilized and modified. The degree of modification depends on whether you choose a 1 1/8" or 1 1/2" wide final belt drive, and the year of your sportster.

The 1979-1982 Sportsters are among the easiest to install. However, all the brake linkage on the 79 model must be changed over to the 80 and newer model style out board brake mechanism.

Some swing arms can be widened while still on the cycle (see instructions). The top shock mount must also be modified if you choose the 1 1/2" drive, your stock chain guard may be retained with some simple modifications. Different year models require unique modifications.

1979 and up 4 speed standard Sportsters take a different belt than the hugger model, please specify year, model and desired gear ratios. The swing arm does not require modification to utilize the 1 1/8" drive (1979 - present).

The Standard Sportster rear shock mount has an encapsulated shock mount with the bolt going through the mount, then through the shock and out the back with the nut on the backside. (See figure 1).

The HUGGER swing arm has a half moon of steel welded on the top of the swing arm with the bolt passing through the shock into the mount, as per drawing below. (See figure 2).
