2.1 TRANSMISSION PULLEYS - INTRODUCTION
The factory chain drive 5 speeds are very tricky as there are several possible
configurations. There are "Sputhe" 5 speeds with the 6 splined output shafts and several
after-market companies that also use this setup. You have "Custom Chrome", "Granny's",
and who all else, we can't keep track. Nearly all of these can be made, if we get the
correct dimensions. We will make about anything you need... all 1965 to 1979 transmission
cases must be modified to accept a belt drive pulley of any manufacture. 1980 and up chain
drive 4 speeds require mild clearancing. The factory belt drive 4 speeds require no
further modifications unless you are going to a much larger than stock pulley. 1964 and
back to 1936 need only to remove the tin plate over the ley shaft to clear the pulley.
A later main shaft is required to use the 1.5 in. wide transmission pulley. However,
narrower trans pulleys can be used with the shorter length shaft.
