2.1.1 BIG TWIN TRANSMISSION PULLEYS
SuperMax Transmission Pulleys For Big Twins. Lighter and far superior to stock transmission pulleys. More expensive but last much longer.
SuperMax offers a wide variety of Transmission pulleys for big twins and Sportsters. We can fit from 1936 to present 4 and 5 speed big twin transmissions. These futuristic pulleys are much lighter than stock factory transmission pulleys. These pulleys have hardened steel splines that are 55 rockwell on the spline area and the drive teeth are constructed from the most advanced Poly on the planet. They wear much longer than 'cast iron' or 'aluminum' pulleys and have an extremely long service life. The total weight of these pulleys vary depending on the number of teeth and which model they are for. The 5 speeds weigh slightly more than the 4 speeds but are still far below the weight of any 'cast iron' or machined steel pulley on the market. The drive belt and the pulleys are of a very similar material and they get along splendidly. Do your motorcycle a big favor and make it turn a lot less weight and use it's power to turn the rear wheel instead. These pulleys are a lot less ratchet prone than a round tooth pulley. We utilize the SuperMax tooth profile which guarantees that the belt will go as low down into the tooth as possible with an additional trash groove below the bottom of the tooth. This trash groove permits dirt and sand and small particles to pass through the drive without causing damage. They increase belt life and mileage over anything else on the market. These pulleys are the greatest!
To make things simple, transmission pulleys have been grouped into three categories:
Each of the tables below show part numbers for the various pulleys. Here is an example:
Part Number: TP 33 4 B or C
TP = Transmission Pulley
33 = Number of teeth
4 = Speed
B = The bike was a belt drive from the factory.
C = The bike was a chain drive from the factory.
Reading the example would be - Transmission Pulley, 33 teeth for a 4 speed, and it was originally a
Chain Drive from the factory. If the last letter was a B then it would have been a Belt Drive from the
factory. Example: TP 33 5 C, Trans Pulley, 33 teeth for a 5 speed Chain Drive originally from the
factory.
A. Custom Pulley - To install any of the pulleys below on a "factory installed belt drive@ 4 speed, a .062 in. spacer must be installed either in front of or behind the pulley, so the transmission pulley nut will tighten up. All pulleys described below are available in custom widths to fit your project bike.

B. Invalude - All splines on the Pulleys listed below are 33 tooth invalude splines 1/2" thick and are 55 Rockwell. They fit from 1986 to 1993 factory 5 speeds. To install on 1994 and up an early spacer and seal are required. Factory P/N OEM Seal 12050 and OEM Spacer-33334-84.
These Pulleys weigh between 2-1/2 to 3 pounds depending on the tooth count and require no special locking devices etc. These pulleys do not squeal when wet and have phenomenal wear characteristics under sandy conditions. Far superior to any other pulley (especially aluminum). The OEM Pulleys weigh over 51/2-6 pounds and rip themselves apart due to material (cast iron with a Rockwell hardness of only 30).

Special width narrower pulleys are available upon request (Extra charge).
C. Sputhe - These pulleys are available in a multitude of configurations. They have a 6 splined center and we make them in special offsets for the 5 speed in a 4 speed box, (the letter "S" has been added after the part number). We make them in 1-1 1/2" widths as well as narrower widths to fit different 5 speeds using the 6 splined output shafts. The 5 speed 6 splined looks like the 4 speed at first glance, however, the 5 speed minor in the spline is close to the major in the 4 speed. These are easily confused when a 4 speed is not nearby for comparison. We make narrow kits for the factory chain drive 5 speeds in the FLT and FXR models, that can be installed with minimal effort and no major modifications. When installing these narrower pulleys on these models the primary chain can be retained.
