1.1.3 PRIMARY DRIVE - The EXCHANGE DRIVE

The SuperMax EXCHANGE DRIVE utilizes the stock HD clutch basket and our polyurethane gears are cast on. It is for 4 speeds only (kick or electric start applications). It may be bought outright, or the customer may send us a stock HD shell (for year and model ordered) for a core charge of $195.00. The customer shell must be clean, in good condition, and have a one piece intact starter ring.

Baskets with a 3 piece ring or no ring may be used for kick start units. New one piece starter rings can be installed on the basket for $75.00 to $130.00 depending on the unit ordered, and if modifications such as moving the starter ring location. The SuperMax EXCHANGE DRIVE includes:

Outer flanges are available on engine pulleys for open primary applications upon request for the charge of $39.00 for a plain flange and $52.00 for a chrome flange. Special offsets to the engine pulleys are also available for $20.00.

1936 to 1954. Rigid frame, tin primary kick start, tapered motor shaft 38 tooth clutch basket, 25 tooth engine pulley, 14mm, 1 1/4", 80 tooth belt, gear ratio is 1.52 to 1. No motor nut is available with tapered shaft units. Tin primary requires minor modifications.

ESK 55-64

1955 to 1964. Rigid frames and early swing arms. Tin primary, splined motor shaft, kick start, tooth sizes and gear ratio same as above.

EGK 65-69

EGE 65-69

1965 to 1969. Swing arm frame, cast aluminum primary, generator motor with a splined motor shaft, kick or electric start, 37 tooth clutch basket, 24 tooth engine pulley, 13.8mm, 1 1/4", 78 tooth belt, gear ratio is 1.54 to 1. The cast aluminum primary requires minor modifications.

EAK 70-84

EAE 70-84

1970 to 1984. Swing arm frame, cast aluminum primary, alternator motor with a splined shaft, kick or electric start. Tooth sizes and gear ratio same as above.

ECE 79-84

For all Sturgis model and all 4 speeds with factory rear drives with a dry clutch 1979 to 1984, swing arm frame, cast aluminum primary, alternator motor with splined shaft, electric start, tooth sizes and gear ratio same as above. This unit requires a special placement of the starter ring. We would like the EXCHANGE shell for the correct year. We can change the ring placement if needed for $80.00. This unit may be adapted to up to 1989 softails by changing to the early style clutches.
